REPDO receives bids for total 200MW Layla and Wadi Al Dawaser solar PV projects
On May 3rd, Saudi Arabia's Renewable Energy Project Development Office (REPDO) received the first bids for Round III launched in January 2020. These first bids are for the category A projects Layla (80MW) and Wadi Al Dawaser (120MW). Bids for the category B projects (Saad 300MW and Ar Rass 700MW) will be submitted on May 24th, after a couple of extensions in the submission of bids due to the pandemic situation. We have finally found out the name of the bidders for this category, considering smaller and less demanding projects in terms of references and requirements. Surprisingly, we found for the first time TOTAL SOLAR and ACWA as part of the bidders for this category of smaller projects. The third bidder, ALFANAR, already participated in round II with Al-Blagha Holding Group which this time is joining TOTAL SOLAR. In REPDO II, ALFANAR won the bid against FIRSTSOLAR and was awarded the Madinah (50MW) and Rafha (20MW) projects, which it plans to connect to the grid in 18 months from now. We will keep an eye on the prices presented in this round III as we were recently surprised with a new world record of $0.0104/kWh in Al Shuaiba (600MW) offered by ACWA Power.
